Question: I have tried repeatedly to download adobe flashplayer, both from that website and others, but it doesn't even attempt to download and then freezes so that I have to reboot. I have prompted and enabled everything I can think of, including popup blocker (disabled).

I've run uninstall flashplayer to clean the slate and done several other things, all to no avail. My browser is Internet Explorer 7.0. Can you help? Even my printer is not being recognized any longer...I can't upload photos on Walmart's website, I can't im on websites either. Thanks so much for any help!

Our Reply: Hi Sharon. The only thing I could imagine that is doing that, is a virus or spy ware/malware. You can get free virus protection for life at http://free.grisoft.com   It is actually more secure, stable and better at protecting your computer then Norton or any other paid virus software. Also, I have used it for years and it has worked fine. But also the fact that it is free for home use is just the icing on the cake.

Anyways, download and install their virus protection software, and spy ware protection software, scan your computer with both of them (most likely it will take all night to complete the scan) then remove any threats you find. If the problems still persist after that, then let me know and I will move onto the next possible solution.

Poster Reply: I ran both anti-virus and spyware and nothing comes up except "Cannot find the file flash.ocx"--repeatedly.   Does that tell you anything?

Our Reply: Ok, that file is for the ActiveX control of Flash. For some reason the file is missing on your machine, and is not getting installed when you install Flash. I think there is a problem with Internet Explorer 7, because it turns out millions of people have had this problem and it is because of an update Microsoft provided for Internet Explorer 7.

You need to get that file from Adobe (they own Flash), Microsoft or some other place, just so long as you get it and put it in this folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed

After you get that file, move it to that folder, restart your computer for good measure, and then it should work fine.

P.S. Make sure you get the file that is for your Operating System.
