Learning how to install RAM is an easy task that anyone can do. What many people don't know is that a simple RAM upgrade can increase your PC's performance and speed, instantly, with just a simple $40 stick of RAM.

If your computer is going to slow and takes a long time to process information, then your need more RAM and you should do an upgrade and learn how to install RAM memory.

Before you begin, you need to make sure the computer is unplugged from everything. You should also find a somewhat clean room that you can work in, preferably with no carpet on the floor.

It is also important that you take off your socks when working inside the computer and touch a metal surface before you even get near the motherboard or anything else, because static electricity could ruin your computer and cause irreplaceable damage.

With those tips in mind, you can start learning how to install RAM. Just follow the step's below.

Remove computer case cover and unplug everything 1. First, unplug everything then remove your computer case cover and set it aside. Some computers have one side piece to remove, and others you have to slide the whole thing off. Do what you have to do, just make sure you don't bend the case the wrong way or lose any of the screws.
RAM slots 2. Now that your case is removed, you should be able to see the RAM. If you don't know where it is or what it looks like, then check out the picture to the left.
Insert RAM into slots 3. Okay, lets install the RAM. There are two options you have depending on how your motherboard is configured. Some motherboards only have one slot, some two or three. So you can arrange it however you like. For instance if you only have one slot, you obviously have to take out the old RAM memory and put the new one in. But if you have one or two more slots available, you can keep the old RAM and just add to it. But before you do any removing, first touch a metal surface to ground yourself.
Lock RAM in by lifting up latches 4. Now, to remove the memory all you have to do it push down on the latches that are on the left and right side. Once both of these latches are pushed down, you can grab the memory gently at the top and pull it up and out of there. Once it is gone, just put your new RAM in, with the pin connectors lined up correctly, and push it down. Then pull the latches up to lock the RAM in place.
Put your computers case cover back on 5. And that is it. Slide your case cover back on, and your RAM memory upgrade is complete. Nothing more to it! Your computer automatically will detect it and adjust everything accordingly. Depending on how much you upgraded your RAM too, you will probably notice your computer start much faster and all around feel faster.

You may be saying to your self, don't I have to set up some software or something? No. The RAM that you just installed is automatically detected by your PC and nothing more is needed to be done.

Now you have learned how to install RAM memory yourself, and you can avoid paying costly computer technicians to do it for you.

Another benefit to learning how to install RAM yourself is the fact that you can do it for other computers in your house and your friend's computers. They will love you, because like I said, it can DRAMATICALLY increase the computers speed for very little money.
