Question: I went to defrag my computer and it shows that i only have 28.63mb of space and that of that i only have 11.01mb available. how do i change this? also when i degraged last week, it didnt have even a 3rd of the contigous files or fragmented files that it shows now. i have not added any new hardware or software. i did however get a trojan virus. could this have caused the problem?

Our Answer: Hi Christina. If it says you only have 11.01 mb available, then you need to do some serious file deleteing to make more room on you hard drive.

You could also get a hard drive upgrade so you have more space. If you do decide to delete files, do so only to files you don't need anymore, and use the "add and remove" tool in the control panel, if you want to remove entire applications.

As for the de-fragmentation problem, it might be the virus, but also it could be the de-fragmentation software you are using. Most likely you are using the one that comes with Windows, which sometimes has some serious problems.

Try DiskKeeper at http://consumer.execsoft.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp?RId=50 and see if it still says the same thing about your hard drive after you defrag it. If it does, then most likely the Trojan is, or did cause it.

I hope I have been of help to you, and if you have any more questions feel free to email me back.
