Apart from the number of modules, you also need to know the maximum capacity of each module. To know this, you need to go through the manual that contains all the details. You must keep in mind that the desktop and the laptop memory modules may appear similar, but have different forms. The laptops make use of the SO-DIMM (Small Outline Dual in Line Memory Module). The Process of Upgrading Laptop MemoryFor upgrading laptop memory, the first thing that you need to do is select a memory type that will suit your laptop and the total amount of memory space that is available in the laptop. In order to start upgrading laptop memory, you need to switch the computer off and remove it from all the power cords.Turn the laptop and you will find the panel that is used to access the memory modules. Make sure that your laptop provides you with this access. In case it does not have this facility, have it installed from a technician. You can refer to the manual provided with the laptop to locate this panel. Remove the screws that hold the panel together and place the panel aside. If there is an existing memory module and you are upgrading laptop memory, remove the modules. You can easily do this by lifting the edges and then removing the whole thing by holding the edges. Place the new memory module in the memory slot by aligning them properly and locking the clamps of the module. Cover it up again with the memory access panel and refasten the screws. The physical process of upgrading laptop memory is complete once you complete this process. But once you switch on the laptop, you may have to visit the BIOS of the computer to allow it to appropriately perceive the newly installed RAM. But you must keep in mind that for upgrading laptop memory, the first and foremost thing that you need to do is check if the memory module you have purchased suits your laptop memory requirements. Just by upgrading the memory of your laptop, you will find noticeable improvement in both performance and speed. |
